Luther L. Leehy

Luther L. Luke Leehy, 81, of OFallon, formerly of East St. Louis, born Sept. 28, 1922 in Elkville, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at OFallon Healthcare Center.
Mr. Leehy retired from the Conrail Railroad Roselake Yards in Fairmont city after 40 years there as an electrician.  He was a World War II Army veteran, having served with the 77th Infantry unit in Okinawa and the Island of Leyte, where he was wounded; he received two  Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and numerous other medals.  He was a lifetime member of East Lodge 504 AF & AM of Fairview Heights, past master of Gilham Lodge 809 in Mulberry Grove, a member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Southern Illinois, Ainad Shrine, Legion of Honor, member and past patron of Queen City 697 OES and a member of American Legion Post 137 in OFallon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Myrtle (Foster) Leehy; two brothers, Dennis and Paul Leehy and two sisters, Edith Snider and Ethel E. Eads.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Lettie B. (Wheatley) Leehy; two sons, Jerry (Patricia) Leehy of Belleville and Lonnie E. (Peggy) Leehy of Alexander, Ark.; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn (Wayne) Dunn of OFallon; three grandchildren, Jerry (Shelly) Leehy, Jeffrey (Maura) Leehy of Belleville and Kimberly (Johnny) Gillum of Shiloh; 10 great-grandchildren, Sgt. Jerry (Danielle) Leehy III, stationed in Iraq, Jeffrey Jr., Nathan, Luke and Lauren Leehy, Zachary Simmons, Jenna and Sara Gillum and Codee and Jilian Grundig; also by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice.  Special thanks to  Jerry Clark and Joy Recker and all the staff at OFallon Healthcare Center.
Visitation was Thursday, June 4 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville  from 4 to 8 p.m.  There will be a Legion of Honor walk-through at 7:20 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 11 at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville with Chaplain Jon Hubbard officiating.  Interment was in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights.
